The event marked the 40th anniversary of the Whiffenpoofs' first tour in China. The Yale choir performed Chinese classics, including Jasmine Flower and The Brightest Star in the Night Sky, both sung in fluent Mandarin. Nankai's choir, a multiple world choral champion, presented a varied program ranging from the Latvian folk song Northern Lights to the playful Italian piece Insalata Italiana.

Before the concert, students toured Tianjin's Ancient Culture Street together.
"Though there was a language barrier, we got to know each other and built friendships," Pan Lutong, a Nankai choir member, said. "Music is a natural, borderless way to connect — it makes cultural exchange feel effortless."

Yale student Benjamin Theodore Jimenez said, "Even though we don't speak the same language, our shared love for singing dissolves boundaries. When the audience started singing along, I felt truly proud to be part of this."
The performance was part of the "Daluan Harmony" cultural exchange program, which encourages visits by young Americans to China as part of a five-year initiative to host 50,000 American students for study and cultural exchange.
