Global Scholars Gathered at Nankai to Track the Ecological Footprint of Civilizations
From October 27th to 30th, the Fourth Conference of East Asian Environmental History (EAEH 2017) was held at Nankai University. More than 200 experts and scholars of 106 universities and institutes from Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, the UK, Germany, France and other countries gathered at Nankai, together discussing the plan for human being’s ecological conservation and promoting the construction of the community of human destiny.
Hosted by Nankai University, The conference was organized by a number of academic groups such as Association for East Asian Environmental History (AEAEH) and Chinese Society for Environment Sciences (CSES). The theme was “Tracking the Ecological Footprint of the East Asian and World Civilization”. Experts and scholars in related fields from Harvard University, Oxford University, Princeton University, Heidelberg University, University of Tokyo and other world famous universities and institutes gathered together to exchange and transmit China’s traditional ecological wisdom as well as ideas of the construction of the ecological conservation.
October 27th, the opening ceremony was held at Jinnan campus. Nankai University’s President and Dean of Institute of Ecological Civilization Gong Ke attended the ceremony and gave a speech. He said, “In the 19th CPC National Congress which was just closed successfully, General Secretary Xi Jinping made an incisive statement about the philosophical ideal, developing direction, construction purpose and operational strategy of ecological conservation. This represents our civilization consciousness and national will, which will guide Chinese people to a new era of ecological civilization more firmly and cast a huge positive influence on the whole world.”
Prof.Lu Xinyuan, Vice President of CSES, said in the speech that, in the 19th CPC National Congress which was just closed, General Secretary Xi Jinping made an incisive statement about the guiding ideology, developing goals and practical strategies about China’s environmental protection and ecological civilization construction. For Chinese people’s long-term welfare and to promote the world’s continuous peace, prosperity and development, the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese government lift environmental protection and ecological civilization construction up to an unprecedented important position, which shows Chinese people’s great ambition and beautiful wish.
Prof.Wang Lihua, President of the 3rd AEAEH, the first directing member of Committee of Environmental History, CSES, Vice Dean of Nankai University’s Institute of Ecological Civilization, Wang Lihua extended his welcome to the attending experts and scholars from all over the world in his speech in the opening ceremony.
The conference lasted for four days. 8 topics were arranged under the theme of “Tracking the Ecological Footprint of the East Asian and World Civilization”. There were five keynote reports and two interdisciplinary salons. 145 papers were published as well.
